The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka toNepal, Ruwanthi Delpitiya, presented her Letters of Credence to the President of Nepal Ramchandra Paudel, at a formal ceremony at Rastrapati Bhavan, Officeof the President, in Kathmandu on 13 November 2025.
During the meeting that followed, Ambassador Delpitiya conveyed to President Paudel the warm greetings of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and expressed appreciation for the longstanding and enduring ties of friendship between Sri Lanka and Nepal. While looking forward to further strengthening the longstanding Buddhist ties between the two countries, Ambassador Delpitiya emphasized that these deep-rooted cultural links provide a strong foundation for expanding collaboration in diverse spheres. Building on this foundation, the Ambassador emphasized her intention to prioritize the enhancement of economic relations, while underlining the need for greater efforts to invigorate bilateral trade and investment. She also highlighted the considerable potential for expanding tourism between Sri Lanka and Nepal.
President Paudel extended his congratulations to Ambassador Delpitiya on her appointment and warmly recalled the enduring friendship shared between the two nations. He noted that even before the establishment of official bilateral relations in 1957, Sri Lanka and Nepal shared deep-rooted religious and cultural ties. The President also expressed his confidence that these longstanding relations will be further strengthened during Ambassador Delpitiya’s tenure.
Ambassador Ruwanthi Delpitiya joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 2003. Prior to her current appointment, she served as Director General of the East Asia and the International Security Cooperation Divisions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism. Her overseas postings include assignments at the Sri Lanka Embassies in Italy and Japan, and at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Malaysia. She last served as Deputy High Commissioner at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Delpitiya holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Kelaniya, and a Master of International Relations from the University of Colombo. She is a past pupil of Ladies’ College, Colombo.
She was accompanied to the Credential ceremony by herspouse Samantha Delpitiya, Minister of the Sri Lanka Embassy ChameeraMunasinghe, and Attaché Kokila Karunarathne.
